DSI REPORTING DASHBOARD

The Drilling Solutions Indonesia Dashboard is designed to track production, monitor costs, manage mud products and mud costs, monitor all drilling and chargeable hours, track core recovery and most importantly identify any problems and take appropriate action on a daily basis.

The DSI Dashboard is available to our clients nominated staff, this is updated on a daily basis, the dashboard allows us to breakdown all information including costs on a rig x rig, shift x shift, hole x hole basis and individuel mud product costs and quantities. We can program / modify the dashboard to suit any drilling program to get the desired results to ensure quality tracking and drilling success.

Cost Management : Drilling Muds

Drilling muds are an important part of the drilling program and must be closely managed as this can become an expensive and unnecessary part of costs – drilling mud costs can become  unnecessarily inflated due to excessive / incorrect product types –  excessive product usage – poor mixing practices – inferior mixing equipment – poor success in circulation recovery – lack of engineering training.

Most ground conditions can be drilled with a maximum of 3 or 4 product types – not 12 or 14 products which is sometimes the case.

DSI monitor all product usage and costs per metre / foot on a shift x shift basis.

Mud suppliers must be accountable for their products – if they cannot support their products – should you continue supporting the supplier?

Drilling contractors must fully support product selection and adhere to mud programs, volume of product used and total mud costs.

It is easy to blame” ground conditions” for down-hole problems – reaming – stuck pipe and casing – core recovery – excessive usage and costs. Is it ground conditions? Is it down-hole tooling? Is it a mud related issue that is not being addressed? We need to deal with a qualified mud mud technician, not a mud sales person.

Loss circulation needs to be addressed by both the drilling contractor and the mud supply company, both need to be proactive and address recovery options. Maintaining full or partial circulation helps maintain hole integrity reducing down-hole problems and of course reduces mud costs.

DSI engage the services of a qualified “Drilling Fluids Engineer – Industrial Chemist”  to assist with mud related issues, reviewing mud programs, mud costs and analyzing drilling problems . Mud contracts need to be structured with KPI targets and non-conformance actions attached.

Drilling Production and Time Management

Maximizing drilling production and minimizing chargeable hours is important so we get maximum core in the tray at a fair and reasonable $ rate. DSI monitor drilling progress as the hole is being drilled, including, total drilled – core recovery –  full hour breakdown – total mud used – survey results. Calculate total costs and breakdown costs per metre / foot for each of the above items daily. All progress on costs and production stored on the DSI Dashboard is available online 24 x 7 for our clients to review. We can see costs per metre / foot for every chargeable item on a shift or daily basis or across the full duration of any drill hole or period.

Drilling Contract Management

DSI can assist in calling and processing tenders to engage the best suited drilling contractor, working through negotiations and award. Costs are a very important part of the selection process, other considerations are rig type / suitability, support capability, proposed drill crews, previous drilling history. It is important to get this process right leading to commencement of drilling – this sets the path for the duration of the contract.

Maximum Core Recovery

Core Recovery  is the single most important factor when drilling a hole exploring for minerals, there are many components in the process which can affect core recovery;

Drill rig type and capacity – down-hole tools – drill rig operator and drilling muds.

When there is a problem with core recovery IS IT THE GROUND CONDITIONS? As ground conditions change, for better or for worse, the mud properties will probably have to change as does the down-hole gear and the drilling technique.  Contractors are engaged to get holes to depth and achieve maximum core recovery, this includes the mud company supplying the mud and technical services, they need to back-up their product with results. It is very easy to blame ground conditions for poor core recovery, usually the problem is related to how the ground conditions are being drilled.
